ZOMBIES, CAR CHASES & MORE!

The Production Design team has been so busy we've barely had time to post! In our first two weeks we've created a movie preview and a car chase, using the myriad of skills and creative tactics stored up our sleeves. Below you'll find a sneak peek of some of our work, but for a more extensive look at the Production Design experience, click here!

Digital Sneaks!

Now that we have created a few designs on paper using traditional drawing media, pencils and markers, we take our favorites to Photoshop to give them some digital perfection!  Here we can play with subtle color changes and add graphics.

Presenting the Fashion and Textile Designers

Fashion and textile design students finished up their first week in the Pratt Summer Design program and have already added an assortment of fashion illustrations to their portfolios.  These fashion and textile designers created illustrations and designs based on their own personal style, and also with recycled materials. Students also began collaborating in teams to create designs for their recycled material ensembles, which they will construct on one of their classmates.

Sneaker design!

This week at Pratt Summer Design, the graphic design students are creating their own sneaker designs.  With the help of Adobe Photoshop, a program we spent the previous week getting to know, and good-old colored pencils and paper, we are using templates of existing sneakers to create our own custom versions of our favorite styles.

Today we finished designing our first round on paper, and tomorrow we choose our favorites and head back to the digital world to digitize our best style, perfect it, and then add custom graphics!  It'll be a challenge, but the end result will be beautiful...and a style all our own!

When we are done with the final designs, they will be sent off to Nike to get feedback from the pros!

Stay tuned!!!

Welcome to the Pratt Summer Design Blog!

We are happy to welcome you to the web log of the Pratt Summer Design Program in Brooklyn, NY.  On this page you will learn what the students are doing, see pictures and videos of their work and hear from the teachers and children themselves.

There are three classes running this summer.  Production design, taught by Magin Schantz, Fashion Design, taught by Erika Schroeder and Graphic Design, taught by George Estreich.

Teaching design is about giving students agency over the images, products, and technologies that increasingly dominate their lives.  At Pratt Summer Design we give the students the skills and awareness they need to contribute to the beauty around them.

We have a great summer planned, so stay tuned and check back for updates!
